Hope08 Litter Picking

gathering to pick litter

Latimer Street Litter Pickers

As part of the nationwide Hope 08 program of events, local churches have been busy helping to clean up Romsey.
Two weeks ago members from local churches converged on the Latimer Street car park and across the morning managed to collect a massive 26 large bags of rubbish which were safely escorted to the local dump.
Last Saturday over 20 people from the churches of Romsey met in the wind and rain in Woodley to do more litter picking. They worked around the Woodley shops, "the dips", the green and towards Abbottswood collecting nearly 20 bags full of litter ranging from crisp packets and sweet wrappers to beer bottles and magazines. A second gardening team worked with the Romsey Hospital League of Friends clearing brambles and overgrown areas by the hospital car park.
This Saturday morning local Christians will be found donning Wellington boots to tackle the rubbish that has accumulated in local streams around the town centre.
Hope 2008 is an initiative of the churches of Britain and Ireland which is helping to demonstrate Christian faith in action and to explain the meaning of that faith in villages, towns and cities throughout the UK. All of the churches in Romsey are working together to show Gods’ love on practical and real ways.
Similar clean up projects are planned across the year and the team would welcome any suggestions of local places which would benefit from a clearing.
