Romsey Saints November Update

Well the season isn’t turning out quite as planned. Since the last update we have played 5 games which we have won 3 but lost 2.

The first game was against Sholing Baptist Church and was the first round of the Solent Cup. A convincing 10 – 1 win took us through to play against Community Church in the next round! Can you believe it one of the biggest Churches in Southampton full of fit students.

The next game was against Highfield Church our first away fixture of the season. A really close encounter was won early on by Highfield from a poorly defended corner. I blame that really tall defender, I’m sure he wasn’t marking his man! Romsey threw everything they had against Highfield but it was just going to be one of those days when nothing seems to work.

One league point from 3 games is not the best record to be going into a game against Community Church but unfortunately this is what was facing Romsey. However, there is something about the Community games that always inspires Romsey to play better and this was one of those games. A solid Romsey defence, the tall guy was doing his job this time, and a battling display gave Romsey a great 2 – 0 win over the old adversary. Maybe this was the turning point.

Meon Valley bottom of the division must be an easy win! Oh how wrong were we!! Romsey went in at half time 2 – 0 up without looking like we had turned up for the game. This was proved second half after Romsey had missed a few other chances Meon came back to level the game at 2 – 2. A last minute attack from Romsey finally produced the winning goal but boy it was hard work.

Things did seem to be changing and Romsey were looking good for the points before kick off against Testwood Baptist. However, this year we have seen Romsey playing well and losing, playing well and winning & not playing well and still winning. This week we completed the set by not playing well and not winning!  A poor performance from Romsey.

More bad news for Romsey as well this week when Manager Dave Minton decided that with various other problems in his life at the moment football will have to stop. Not good news for the club as Dave has been doing a great job. However, as a temporary fix I have stepped in to take over from Dave to keep things going. Please pray that I will have God’s wisdom in how to deal with all the various players involved. Also that this might be a great opportunity to really be a witness to all the players who aren’t Christians. Any one with any thoughts or ideas on how to get the players involved with Church please come and chat.
